Learning Goal 11
Learning Goal 11: I can draw and describe early models of the atom and explain the experimental results that led to their development.
Learning Criteria
1. I recognize, describe, and draw early models of the atom.
For example: If I was asked to describe the Plum Pudding Model of the atom, I would say that it consists of diffuse positive charge and negatively charged electrons located throughout the atom.
2. I can describe key experiments that led to different models of the atom.
For example: If I was asked to describe Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment, I might say that: Alpha particles were shot through gold foil. Must of the alpha particles went straight through. Occasionally, the alpha particles hit something and bounced back. Rutherford concluded that the atom is mostly empty space with a dense positively charged area located in the center of the atom.
