Learning Goal 4
Learning Goal 4: I can classify an examples and particle illustrations of matter as a pure substance (element), pure substance (compound), mixture (homogeneous), or mixture (heterogeneous).
Learning Criteria
1. I have memorized and can verbally describe and write out the definitions of the following terms: matter, particle, atom, element, compound, pure substance, mixture, homogeneous mixture, heterogeneous mixture.
For example: Given the term "compound", I am able to say and write "A compound is a type of matter whose particles are composed of two or more different types of atoms".
2. I have memorized and can illustrate the relationships between different types of matter.
For example: The illustration below shows that elements and compounds are both types of pure substances. (Different types of atoms are illustrated using different shapes.)

3. I can recognize and draw particle illustrations of different types of matter.
For example: Given the particle illustration shown below, I am able to identify it as an example of a pure substance - compound because the particles are all identical (pure substance) and the atoms within the particles contain at least two different types of atoms (compound).
