Learning Goal 6: I can explain the importance of significant figures in a measurement and identify the number of significant figures in a measurement value.
Learning Criteria
1. I can explain the importance of significant figures in measurement.
For example: I can explain that the number of significant figures in a measurement are important because they are an indication of the level of uncertainty in the measurement.
2. I can use significant figure rules to identify the number of significant figures in a measurement value.
For example: Given the measurement value 52000, I can correctly determine that the value has 2 significant figures, because I know that trailing zeros in a number without a decimal are not significant.
