Learning Goal 9L
Learning Goal 9L: I can order and describe a series of logical steps that I would use to investigate a scientific question.
Learning Criteria
1. I have memorized and can verbally describe and write out the definitions of the following terms: hypothesis, theory.
For example: Given the term "hypothesis", I am able to say and write "An hypothesis is a testable statement that is capable of either being supported or not supported by evidence.
2. When I either ask or am given a scientific question, I can outline and describe the first logical steps that I would take to begin investigating the question.
For example: I might decide to begin the investigation of a question that I have with the following steps: 1. Communicate with others about the question. 2. Investigate what is known by performing an internet search 3. Develop a testable hypothesis.
3. Upon observation or collection of data in an investigation, I can outline and describe the next logical steps that I would take to continue the investigation.
For example: after examining the results of a research study, I might decide to continue my investigation by 1. Thinking about the implications of my results 2. Gathering more information about what is known about the question 3. Communicating with others 4. Developing a new testable hypothesis based upon my results.
